The energy flux into a fluidized granular medium at a vibrating wall
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the power input of a vibrating wall into a fluidized granular medium, using event driven simulations of a model granular system. The system consists of inelastic hard disks contained between a stationary and a vibrating elastic wall, in the absence of gravity. Two scaling relations for the power input are found, both involving the pressure. The transition between the two occurs when waves generated at the moving wall can propagate across the system. Choosing an appropriate waveform for the vibrating wall removes one of these scalings and renders the second very simple. Typeset using REVTEX

Nuclear magnetic resonance measurements of velocity distributions in an ultrasonically vibrated granular bed.
We report the results of nuclear magnetic resonance imaging experiments on granular beds of mustard grains fluidized by vertical vibration at ultrasonic frequencies. The variation of both granular temperature and packing fraction with height was measured within the three-dimensional cell for a range of vibration frequencies, amplitudes and numbers of grains. Small increases in vibration frequen...
متن کاملDriven granular gases with gravity.
We study fluidized granular gases in a stationary state determined by the balance between external driving and bulk dissipation. The two considered situations are inspired by recent experiments, where gravity plays a major role as a driving mechanism: in the first case, gravity acts only in one direction and the bottom wall is vibrated; in the second case, gravity acts in both directions and no...

Recently several authors studied the segregation of particles for a system composed of mono-dispersed inelastic spheres contained in a box divided by a wall in the middle. The system exhibited a symmetry breaking leading to an overpopulation of particles in one side of the box. Here we study the segregation of a mixture of particles composed of inelastic hard spheres and fluidized by a vibratin...
